Once again Susan's band Blackwaterside will be performing live and in Los Angeles -- a rare opportunity, indeed.

Please come out and see them on Saturday, June 18th, at Kulak's Woodshed, the most charming little venue you'll ever see. If you feel like listening to beautiful, inspiring music in a cozy, comfortable living room atmosphere, then you definitely should make it out to Kulak's. You can even bring your dog if you want!

Kulak's Woodshed is located at 5230 and a half Laurel Canyon Blvd., just north of Magnolia on the east side of the street, in North Hollywood, 91607. Plenty of street parking is available. For more information, you can go to their website at www.kulakswoodshed.com.

The show lasts from 8 to 10pm. Opening for Blackwaterside is the wonderful George Cavanaugh, singing and playing guitar -- one of the finest male voices you'll ever hear. After that is a short instrumental interlude of Sam Hill and Susan playing flute and guitar arrangements of American, English and Celtic folk songs. These are very interesting, unique arrangements that really show them both off and let them shine.

And then comes the headlining band, Blackwaterside, with lots of new material. Once again they'll be performing with Laura Browne and her stunning vocals.

We hope to see you there. By the way, since Kulak's is now considered a club, you can either sign up online for five bucks, or you can tell Susan you're coming, and she'll put you on the guest list. If you know for sure you're coming, go ahead and sign up on their website, but if you want to be more spontaneous about it, you can e-mail Susan up to the last minute, and she can put you on the guest list.

And by the way, if you can't make it at all, the whole show will be webcast live, so just tune in to www.kulakswoodshed.com and be there in spirit if not in body.

Looking forward to seeing you at Kulak's Woodshed next Saturday the 18th of June.

Susan will be playing in the acclaimed theater production "Peter and Wendy" until November 10th at the La Jolla Playhouse. This is an unusual (very un-Disney) version of the Peter Pan story, and is one of the most delightful, colorful, fantastical voyages you'll ever take. Susan plays in the five-piece Celtic band which accompanies the play, led by the well-known Scottish fiddler Johnny Cunningham. She's on nine different instruments (all flutes, whistles and recorders) and has a lot of stunning featured solos. The music is extremely beautiful and poignant, to say the least.

The show has Tuesday through Saturday performances at 8pm, with a Sunday matinee at 2pm. Click here for a review.

October 1, 1999

Susan Craig Winsberg has some interesting projects in the works at this time, but nothing is firm yet, so we'll keep you posted about them as they come in.

Worth mention, however, are the projects completed this past year. Besides producing her new CD "La Belle Dame," Susan was musical director of the traveling Celtic dance show "Fire and Grace" -- a kind of Scottish Riverdance. Specifically, she directed and performed the musical intervals between dance numbers, forming a trio with Laura Browne (of the Browne Sisters) on vocals and bodhràn, and John McLean Allan on highland pipes and guitar. The trio was met with great enthusiasm from audiences across the western states, playing in such prestigious venues as Royce Hall (Los Angeles) and the Orpheum Theatre (Phoenix), among others. Susan, Laura and John are planning to record the music which they performed in "Fire and Grace" for possible future release.

Another very interesting "gig" which Susan performed this year was the magical play "Peter and Wendy." A production of the famous New York theatre company Mabou Mines, "Peter and Wendy" had the renowned fiddler Johnny Cunningham as musical director and Susan McKeown (featured on "La Belle Dame") as vocalist; along with Jay Ansill (also on "La Belle Dame") on guitar and harp, Alan Kelly on piano accordion, and Jay Peck on percussion. Susan enjoyed a long successful run with "Peter and Wendy" this year at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and last year at Yale Rep. and the Geffen Theatre (Los Angeles).

Susan's yearly concert at the James Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton (near San Jose, California) was a great success this year as always. She was joined this time by Suzanne Friend on vocals, bodhràn and whistle, and James Robinson on guitar. They performed selections from "La Belle Dame," "Blackwaterside" and "Moonsongs." A great musical experience was had by all.

Keep checking back for information on Susan's upcoming dates. Thanks for visiting.
